High Street Makeup Wishlist

So my Spending Ban and Project 10 Pan are driving me crazy. I have to put all my
shopping energy into something so I have decided to do some wishlist posts.
As the title suggests there are some bits and bobs that I want to try out from the high
street so all can be found in either Boots or Superdrug. I haven't stepped foot in Boots
in about a month! A few products are new releases that I cannot wait to get my hands
on, and others are things that I didn't want to try out before but for one reason or another
I have changed my mind.

This is my very first Wishlist post so I hope you enjoyed this and let me know if you
have any tips or suggestions on how I could improve.  I am sorry about some of the
picture quality, a few have been taken from the Boots Website.

Glossybox - February

So this month, Glossybox took one step towards being cupid, all in the name of Valentine's day. I hope you all had a lovely day whatever you got up to. The box itself had a makeover this month, glossy pink and bow ribbon detail I really hope it stays this way.

Micabella Cosmetics
Micabella Cosmetics - Mineral Eye Shadow
This shade is beautiful and is probably going to be my favrouite product this month. I do prefer pressed shadows as I find them easier to apply and work with. But I am looking forward to using this for an evening look.
Anatomicals Shower Gel
Anatomicals - Shower Gel
Yes another Anatomicals product, I am actually getting really bored of this. I didn't like the first product that I recieved from this brand, and haven't liked any since. Some people like the chatty quotes that are on the bottles, but I personally don't find them funny and think it is a poor effort to copy Soap & Glory's packaging. The scent of this shower gel is rose, I normally like floral scents but this really doesn't do it for me. It reminds me off my nan, I love her, but nobody wants to smell like old people.
sassoon shine spray
Sassoon Salon - Professional Spray Shine
I was really excited about this product I love a good shine spray, and yet to find a good one. I don't know whether my hair is too thick or long or whatever, but I really did not notice any difference. Please leave a comment if there's a trick to using this type of product or a good one because I am always disappointed.
mememe fatcat mascara
Mememe Cosmetics - FatCat Lengthening Mascara
I love trying out new mascara, and a lengthening one too, I am intruiged as to whether it can match my L'Oreal Telescopic that I really love. I won't be trying this out for a while as I have so many already opened mascaras, but I will do a post with my thought when I do get around to trying it.
miners lip colour
Miners Cosmetics - Lipstick
I have heard a few people mention this brand with always a positive vibe so I was really excited to try a lipstick by them. I like the bullet, that you can see the colour clearly. Wait? Brown?  It is common knowledge that the Glossybox team does not read our beauty profiles, but a brown lipstick?  Amazing for very tanned or dark skin, but with my pale skin, it made me feel like a ghost just looking at it. Why couldn't I have the pink shade that everyone else seems to have received? I won't wear this long enough for my to have an opinion about this lipstick.

They also included a heart shape lollipop. Being the useless blogger that I am, I gave it to my housemate before I had photographed anything.
You can subscribe via their website. Also I am not affiliated with Glossybox, I paid for my subscription myself.

Valentine's Evening Makeup

Every year Valentine's day rolls around, some people love it, and some people loathe it, even those with someone to share it with.  Me and my boyfriend are planning a belated date night due to his work schedule but this the look that I will wear when we do finally get round to spending an evening together.  Note: I am by no means calling this a tutorial, I wanted to share a post that I thought some of you might be interested in and maybe give you some ideas.
Used:
Sleek Storm Palette - Gold
Sleek Respect Palette - Otis Red, O'Jays and Vandellas
Sleek Blush by 3 Lace - Gruipure
Super+ BB Cream
MAC Studio Fix Foundation
Sleek Contour Kit
Maybelline One by One Mascara
HD Brow Kit
Collection 2000 Illuminating Concealer
Rimmel Apocalips - Nova

This is my first 'look' type post so please bare with me but also please leave me any feedback in the comments below. Also, I have unintentionally used a lot of Sleek products, which I am sort of happy with as Sleek is widely available but I will aim to use more variety if I do similar posts to this again.

The main feature I focuses on with this look were the eyes, I wanted to create a pretty, girly but not too OTT effect. I normally keep to very neutral, natural colours, so I really enjoyed putting this look together as it is something different for me.
I decided to use my Sleek Respect Eyeshadow Palette for most of the eye colours. First I took a fluffy brush and sweeped O'Jays all over the lid. I then took a gold shade from my Sleek Storm Palette and patted that onto the inner and middle of my lid .
The gold shade I used from this palette is the 4th shade in on the top row
I only realised when I started writing this, that I probably should have taken step-by-step photographs for you. Sorry guys, my bad!
I then went back to my Respect Palette and placed Otis Red lightly in the crease on the outter third to define my eye. I blended this with the O'Jays shade to soften the look and to add in some more red. It all might seem a bit 'ill looking' with all this red floating around, but with a domed eye brush (MAC 217 style) I applied Vandellas into the crease. I started from the outter corner of the eye and ran it all the way around the crease so that it just about came into the inner corner. Blend this really well to remove any harsh lines. I added more to the outter part of my crease to make the purple stronger.
At this stage I also when back in and applied a little bit more of the gold shade to my lid so that it was really shimmery and the colour showed vividly. With a clean domed brush I made sure all the edges were blended out and made it more smokey.
I very rarely use eyeliner so instead I ran the purple shade two thirds of the way under my eye. for the other third I placed the rose gold O'Jays shade. I decided on the orangey tone to bring out the green and blue tones in my eyes. I also applied a coat of One by One mascara, natural false lashes would look great here as well though. I used the HD Brow Kit to fill in my brows.

For date makeup I like to keep my skin looking as natural and illuminating as possible. I used BB Cream all over my face to even my skin tone out and cover small imperfections. I do get redness on my cheeks sometimes and I also have a few breakouts so I blended a very small amount of Studio Fix Fluid in certain places to cover those up. As I do want a nice radiance to the skin, I applied a generous amount of illuminating concealer under the eyes, on the brow bone and down my nose.
I contoured to shape my cheeks, and so that my boyfriend will never notice that I actually have a chubby face. As the eye look does contain shimmer I thought I would use a blush that contain a small amount of shimmer too. I decided on a blush that was very similar to the O'Jays shade I had used on the eyes. The rose gold shade in the Lace Blush by 3 palette is so lovely and very pigmented, I only applied a little to the tops of my cheek bones.

For the lips, I wanted to keep this neutral and matte. I think a glossy or bold lip would have been too much. I used the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquers in Nova, which is showing up more purple than it actually is.

General Tips:
Normally I would always say that the makeup you put on your face is completely up to you, and to create a look that you like and are happy with. Well, I'm not saying you shouldn't still do that, but whenever I'm doing my makeup for a date with my boyfriend I tend to do my makeup how he likes it. This is because even though I'm not really trying to impress him as such, I still want him to see me and realise how lucky he is (well maybe not lucky but you know what I mean). Usually, boys agree with the less is more rule, which is why a natural dewy look is normally a winner.
In most cases I very much doubt you're boyfriend will go 'Oh I love that smokey eye that you do', well it would freak me out if mine did. So you might need to think back to a time when he has actually commented on how nice you look.  He might have said your eyes look nice, so try to remember the colours you used that made them pop out at him. Or in my case it's a 'what not to wear'. My boyfriend cannot stand shiny, bright, bold lips. At All! Therefore, I avoid anything that he thinks will transfer or stain his lips.
Even by using one trick that you know he prefers, hopefully a little will go a long way.

Sephora Blush - Rose Glow

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say us Brits need to sign a petition to get a Sephora over here, sharpish!  If you wish I did a post on a couple of things I picked up when I went into Sephora. One of the items being this lovely Sephora Collection blush in Rose Glow for $14 so under £9. I am so impressed with the quality and colour payoff.
As you can see the packaging is quite basic, simple black pot with a transparent lid to let the Sephora logo embedded in the blush peek through. I love when brands have their name or symbol crafted into the product, I think it makes it look so elegant. A good size as well so if you're someone who likes to carry a blush in their bag then these are perfect.
There were so many shades to choose from but I think I picked the right choice, a dark rosy colour I love this for in the Winter. You only need a little as the blush has good colour payoff, and easily blends to leave a natural flush. These last for such a long time without fading as well which is always something the cheaper blushes tend to do.
This is probably one of my most expensive blushes but I am so glad that I purchased it. I would definitely get some other shades, as this is a matte shade I would love to try out others that contain a bit shimmer to see how they compare. I'll have to wait till I get a chance to go to Europe or America again though, that is the only downside.

Nars Bronzer - Laguna

Yes I caved, I bought it.  As well as being an avid lipstick junkie, I am partial to a bit lots of bronzer. I have tried various high street bronzers by all different brands, but Nars Laguna Bronzer is the beauty community's most hyped bronzer, so naturally when ASOS decided to have 20% student discount before Christmas I couldn't say no.
I don't know how to say this, but, here goes. Initially I was so disappointed with this particular shade and could not understand the hype. The bronzer generally is beautiful, it's Nars I didn't expect anything less to be honest. The texture is so lovely, so smooth and it blends amazingly on the skin to give a natural finish. Though there is shimmer that runs through the product in the pan, it doesn't transfer onto the skin.

Left: Laguna    Right: ELF Contour
The only reason for any disappointment is probably my own fault. Laguna bronzer is normally used as a contour shade and is the reason why I purchased it. For those of you that are not familiar with this term, contour is where a shadow is created in hollows of the face to scalp and shape the face to make it look thinner and define bone structure. I like a really dark, defined contour which I blend out, I found that Laguna did not give the full effect that I wanted. As the swatches show Laguna is so light compared to it's ELF 'dupe'. (Which is the bronzer I am currently using for my contour.)
I really love the quality though, definitely my favourite bronzer for longevity and finish. The packing is nice, sleek, black compact with a massive mirror which is handy. The outside can get a bit grubby after a while as any dirt or makeup does seem to attach itself to the rubber packaging.
I now use it all over my face and it warms up my complexion beautifully. I use this sometimes during the day as it is so easy to work with, but mainly in the evenings as I know it is one of those products that always looks good.  I do really like this and do appreciate that the quality that Nars Bronzers have is amazing. I still cannot quite fathom as to why this shade has become so big, because I don't believe that Laguna perfectly suits as many people as there is claiming that it does. I do definitely want to check out other shades, but I will go to a Nars counter before purchasing next time. Hopefully they will open a counter near me soon, not too close actually, I wont have any money left.

La Roche Posay Moisturer Light

I picked this La Roche-Posay Hydreane Light moisturiser up way back in the Summer and it quickly took its seat in my daily routine. I think it appeared in a favourites at some point as well. La Roche Posay is a French brand but is readily available in Boots.
A word of warning, obviously the majority of the writing is in French and can be very daunting as it was to me. I don't speak French and I'm not a master of skincare so it could have gone very wrong. Also being on the more expensive side of high street brands, it is probably very easy to spend a lot of money on products that are not suited to your skin type. I even did a bit of research first and I still got to the counter and thought it all looked the same. Just a general warning really, it might just be me though.
Unlike most other highstreet moisturisers this one can found in it's own box, which for me automatically makes it feel more up market. The next thing that sets this apart from other face creams that can be found in Boots is the scent. Not, fruity or floral (not that I dislike those scents) but this moisturiser has a more professional smell to it. Some people would say that products for sensitive skin should be scentless, but I haven't had any problems with this product breaking me out or anything, so I think it's down to personal preference.
The brand can be used with any skin type but this particular product is for normal to combination skin, I have normal to dry so I maybe didn't get the best results. I still found this to be a lovely moisturiser, it is so light and sinks into the skin quickly, so I use it in the mornings before applying my makeup. It is really very smooth and thin so anyone that prefers a normal or heavy moisturiser I would go for regular formula.

I like this more as a summer moisturiser, due to my dry skin, over the Winter I have been reaching for something with a bit more of a kick to stop dry patches from appearing. In the Summer this always left my skin feeling hydrated and soft. For the normal price of £11 for 40ml I don't think it is too bad for this product. I don't think this is the star of the range by any means but if you are in the market for a moisturiser like this, then I would recommend it.

I probably wouldn't repurchase this product as I want to try other face moisturisers out and I don't think this is the perfect one for me. However, I am looking forward to using this more as we enter the warmer months and I don't regret picking it up. In Boots there are currently discounts on La Roche-Posay products.

Eyeshadow Palettes Collection

If you saw my 52 things for 52 weeks post, you will have seen one of the goals I have set myself is to take some form of control and not buy any eyeshadows for the entire year.  5 weeks down 47 to go!  I thought this would be the perfect time to show my collection of palettes. For some people this might seem excessive and for others, won't even be a drop in the sea. Personally, this is more than enough, baring in mind that I also use smaller palettes and single eyeshadows that aren't shown.

Urban Decay - Naked Palette
Urban Decay - Naked 2 Palette
Superdrug - Earth Eyes Palette
Sleek - Storm Palette
Sleek - Respect
Sleek - Au Natural Palette
Sleek - Oh So Special Palette
MUA - Heaven and Earth Palette
MUA - Undressed Palette
Next - Just Pink Palette
Beauty UK - 4 Palette

So you can probably see a theme here not only the shades that I tend to go for, but also the brands, for me MUA and Sleek palettes are the best from the highstreet. The Urban Decay Naked palettes are the only highend palettes that I own so I can't really comment on other highend eyeshadows.
You may also think that quite a few of these seem practically untouched. That is because I never used to wear eyeshadow on an everyday basis, when I'm in a rush it's the part of my makeup that I miss out.  It's something that I am working on though.
I will be doing full posts on some of these palettes with full swatches and everything, but let me know if one does catch your eye.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer

This month Rimmel's Apocalips Lip Lacquers have literally exploded into bloggersphere and have taken over our lips. These were released at the very end of January in the mist of a 3 for 2 offer on Rimmel, lovely lovely. I, of course, picked up three shades Luna, Nova and Apocaliptic.
From Top to Bottom: Apocaliptic Nova Luna
I have heard nothing but glowing reviews for these so naturally I thought that I would instantly fall in love never to use a standard lipstick again. The reality was very different, I hated them. They smelt like paint, they felt like paint on the lips and showed ever dry crack in my lips. They were not what I expected at all.
I actually really like the packaging, you can easily see which colour you're choosing, the lid has a sort of crystal style end. The wand is a doe foot applicator which actually spreads the product evenly across the lip. The wand contains a lot of product therefore can be a bit of pain when you first apply.
After spending a while testing all the different shades on my lips I decided that I wasn't going to just throw them to the back of a drawer and forget I ever bought them. I decided to play around with them a little bit and make them work for me. For me these are not a throw on as you leave the house sort of product.  How I have found works best for me is to apply one coat, then blot the colour on some tissue to remove the thickness of the product while creating a stain on the lips. I then apply a thin layer again, depending on which shade and the occasion I could be done there. However, with the brightest shade I own Apocalipic, I would then blot and apply one more time to make sure the colour is really vibrant without being too heavy on the lips.
Luna: The peach tone in the range. There is a shade that is more nude than this one. I have actually been a bit unfair with this shade as this photograph was taken after the first application, before I blotted whereas the other two are after the blot. This is probably my favourite out of all three, I think it would suit a lot of different skin tones.
Nova: A really nice daytime pink, this is almost a your lips but better shade. I wear this slightly more opaque than photographed but can look lovely sheered out too. The shade range is really varied and contains all different shades from a soft nude all the way to post box red 'Big Bang'.
Apocaliptic: The brightest shade that I own and for me a lovely nighttime shade. I wore this out to dinner and it stayed put for such a long time even after eating the stain still remained. When I swatched these on my hand in Boots, this shade causes me the most pain as it wouldn't come off my hand. I rubbed it and it just turned my hand pink. Good to know that it wasn't going anywhere, but embarrassing that I looked like I had a really bad rash.

I now really like these and have been using Luna or Nova every day. These were created to combine the colour payoff of a lipstick and glossy finish of a lipgloss. I'm still working with the texture as the brighter shade can bleed a little and sometimes I do have to check to make sure I don't have any on my teeth. At £5.99 I think these are really great, and have also taught me that I shouldn't just give up on a product if I don't like it immediately.

52 Things update

Beauty
I have started Project 10 Pan
No new eyeshadows

Blogging
The number of views on my blog has increased this month so we are already on the way to getting the 10,000 that I wanted to achieve by the end of the year.
I joined Twitter! I am so glad I did this already, it has opened up an extension to the blogging world and I would recommend anyone to get an account and join in.

Finance
Erm let's not talk about this.
Actually I have started the 100 Spending Ban it's been 2 days and I'm on track.

Health and Food
Let's not talk about this either. I have pigged out a lot this month.

Relationship
The surprise for my boyfriend was that I took him out to dinner. Well he almost ruined it because he hates me paying anything for him.. We went TGIs which is his favourite place to eat at the moment. I wanted to say thank you to him for spoiling me recently as it was him that took me to New York for my birthday. Cringe!

Travel and Activities
Everyone has been booking their holidays this month, and it's driving me crazy. I'm not going on a girls holiday or anything this year so seeing constant status of Ibiza is already getting me depressed.

So I have started doing the challenges I have set myself this year. Slow and steady I say. As things progress into the year and birthday season in my family is over, I'll be able to concentrate on some of the long term goals I want to achieve this year.

Life Through a Lens #2

These photos aren't actually in any order, just as I came across them on my phone.  I really enjoyed putting pictures from my holiday to New York in my last Life Through a Lens post so I thought I would do a similar post with what I got up to in January.
(Left to Right)

I bought the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, Yes I did! I was so excited about trying this as I have heard so many good thing about this brand and love the Pixiwoo sisters. (Samantha designed the brushes for those of you that didn't know)

The Apocalips Lip Lacquers by Rimmel might have found their way into my life, and oh would you look at that, there was a 3 for 2 offer as well. Naughty!

At the very beginning of January I debated as to get The Sims 2 and after about half an hour I decided it was a very good idea.

This month I also started reading The Time of my Life by Cecilia Ahern who is one of my favourite writers.

I made a small ELF order, the picture included is actually of the wrong brush that they sent me. Unfortunatly they have a policy where they don't send out replacements but they did refund my money. Which isn't really the same but at least they excepted that they had send me the wrong item.

January can be really expensive with the sales, but on top of that I know so many people with birthdays in January I spend a lot of time buying presents for people.

I finished the last ever episode of Gossip Girl, accompanied by a lovely little pot of Cherry Ice Cream. Very lovely indeed, worth a try.

On one of my shopping trips this month I got a Costa Coffee Smoothie, I religiously get Millies Cookies Iced Smoothies so I felt a bit naughty that I had strayed from my usual beverage.

I have been craving a holiday. I keep searching for holidays at ever opportunity but I probably won't get the chance to go on one this summer.

Walkers Pickled Onion crisps
, have you heard of them? I suddenly got a massive craving for these this month and no one believed me that they existed, so I stalked them down and found some in an ASDA.

Love a nice cup of tea and a Rich Tea biscuit. I am such an old woman. I am really funny about dipping food in drink but tea and rich tea biscuits are the ONLY exception, I'm so weird.

I posted my first ever Outfit of the Day picture on Twitter. It's something that I want to do more often as I think it would give you a great opportunity to get to know my style and therefore a little more about me.

Anyone that is subscribed to Glossybox would have received a night mask this month. I've never had one before and I'm a little bit scared to use it because if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't see anything I might think that I've gone blind in my sleep. Seriously I'm getting more crazy as this goes on.

I bought the famous Enrapture rollers back in November I think, and I really love them. I only use them in the evenings if I'm doing something nice so I've played around with them a few times so I might be doing a post on these soon.

Me and my boyfriend like taking his dog for walks, we go to a wooded park where we walk in the river. This time shown the river had gotten really deep and was flowing really quickly.

As I mentioned this month is all about birthdays not only in my family but with family friends and my close group of friends. So I've been going out to restaurants quite a lot this month and I also treated my boyfriend to dinner to say thank you for taking me on holiday and spoiling me in general. We went to TGIs and it was so good their cocktails are amazing too.

Project 10 Pan

This challenge sort of goes hand in hand with my 100 day spending ban, which I guess could be seen as cheating as I'm not allowed to be buying new things anyway. Oh Well!
The idea behind this post is to show you which products I have decided to completely use up, either because I don't use them and they are taking up room, or because I love a certain product so much that I have bought 100 of them and need to use them all up. I am also not allowed to buy any other products until these are completely used up. These are not the only products that I have that fall into each category so I have no excuse to buy any products at all.
I have 10 categories as opposed to just 10 products.
Concealers
I have also included the Dream Matte foundation from Maybelline as I bought a couple of these back in the day of their hype, but now I'm not such a big fan and just want it gone. Similar story with my ELF All Over Cover Sticks (top right) I used to love these, but my love affair ended before I could even start my second stick. The other two ELF concealers are not favourites of mine, the coverage is nice on both but neither have very good staying power which for me is such a pain. However, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is really good and is one of the products that I have lots of, so want to get rid of some of my most empty tubes. The Collection Illuminating Touch was too very nice and did the job that I wanted but I've decided to try other versions of the YSL format.
Primers
I'll start with my ELf eye primers both from their normal and mineral ranges, I like both of these and most of the time reach for these more than my Urban Decay Primer Potion. I want to do a post where I compare these to the UD one so keep you're eyes peeled for that one. The MUA face primer, it's ok but nothing great. I prefer face primers that have a more silicone base to them whereas this one is more of a cream. I think it was under £5 though so I'm not disappointed as I didn't have high hopes really.
Bronzers
The Natural Collection one has appeared in a couple of posts before where I have tried to use this up and that's because I have another one in the same shade. They are so big and contain so much product it seems like it is never ending. I like this, it does have a lot of shimmer running through it so I like it has a highlight shade on my cheek bones. The bronzing balls are in a Dream Matte Foundation pot because the packaging broke very soon after my buying them and I can't remember what brand they are from. Sun Kissed or something maybe? These are darker than the Natural collection one and again contain shimmer.
Body Shop Lip Balms
These are perfect for school bags and desks, they come in a variety of scents and shades. To be honest not as moisturising as I thought they would be as I am a massive fan of The Body Shop Body Butters. But I do like these especially the Born Lippy version which can be used as a tint as well, so brilliant two in one product.
Eyeshadows
The two palettes I don't ever use so I thought that now would be a perfect time to clear them out. This Gosh palette has actually made me not want to buy anything else from the Gosh Brand because I really don't think the quality matches the price and when there are brands like MUA that keep bringing out amazing palettes at really affordable prices, I don't want to waste my money. The other palette is by a Spanish brand and was really cheap, but with that the staying power is rubbish. The little Maybelline Eyeshadow in P  I think is very similar to Sin from Urban Decay, and also might be doing a post on dupes very soon.
Face Powders
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, a good face powder but have since tried the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and I much prefer it so I've converted to that one. I bet not many of you recognise or even remember when 17 packaging looked like this. I know some of you are probably shaking your heads because I can't hide how long I've had this. I like this, a simple powder, matches my skin colour really well but I prefer the Rimmel powder again.
Face Creams
It feels like I have a million and one face creams sometimes but these particular ones have been with me for quite a while and have even followed me to 3 different houses! They are good creams though so don't just want to throw them away. HOARDER guilty.
Body Creams
I have so many lotions and potions I have decided to remove the ones that have been lying around the longest. Also the sample that I received in a Glossybox is also in here as I really like the scent but for reason always choose something else over it.
Impulses
I used to collect Impulses. Is that sad? I have at some point in my life owned every single fragrance  and have duplicates of all the scents photographed. These are really handy for school or gym bags as the scents are always nice and girly without being too overpowering. My friend asked me what perfume I was wearing and I don't know if the scent she liked was my impulse of my actual perfume.
Heat Defence Spray
I have a mini collection here, the Aussie Take the Heat and the John Freda Frizz Ease sprays I would probably repurchase at some point as I really liked them but the GHD and Toni and Guy I felt were just alright and nothing too special really. Did the job and smelt nice but always felt that either they could be greasy or weighed my hair down.

As I finish these they will appear in empties videos, or I might do updates if I think there's enough information to do a full post on. I have done similar posts to this before as I Shopped My Stash in August and September in a bid to use more of my products.
